    Rod Cappell is a Director of Poseidon based in Edinburgh, Scotland and has over 12 years experience in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Rod holds degrees in marine biology, marine resource development and a post-graduate qualification in environmental economics. He is an associate member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).

    Rod is experienced in project management, investment appraisal, programme evaluation, market analysis & strategic development. He has worked throughout the UK and Ireland on fishing industry studies, port development, offshore energy and regeneration projects for public and private sector clients. He has managed a number of Europe-wide studies on the environmental and socio-economic impacts of management policies on the fisheries sector. Rod has also worked in South and South East Asia, managing a 3 year aquaculture research project for DFID, UK and has undertaken a variety of research projects on sustainability issues relating to seafood such as investigating trade mechanisms to encourage sustainable aquaculture practices and conducting life cycle assessment of key UK seafood products.

    Rod's recent experience includes the sustainable development of coastal communities with the production of fishing industry development plans and the practical implementation of marine spatial planning. He is currently managing research on the development of Marine Protected Area (MPA) Networks and producing an economic assessment of the comparative costs of aquaculture regulation in key producer countries.
