It was his love of people that drew Mr. Cantu to the consumer services business.A graduate of Texas A&M University, he began his career with the Cook Industries Agri-Products Group based in Mexico.In 1970, he joined Terminix International, then a subsidiary of Cook, and eventually rose through the ranks to become president.Mr. Cantu became part of ServiceMaster in 1986 when it acquired Terminix, and he was appointed president and CEO of The ServiceMaster Company in 1994.

Mr. Cantu was committed to helping ensure that others were afforded opportunities to succeed.That commitment led him to establish the Carlos H. Cantu Hispanic Education and Opportunity Endowment at Texas A&M University to seek solutions to the nation's Hispanic student drop-out problem.
Mr. Cantu received the Horatio Alger Award in 1997, which honors outstanding individuals who have succeeded in spite of adversity.He was also honored with the Ellis Island Medal of Freedom in May 2000, and as the Society of Entrepreneurs 2000 "Entrepreneur of the Year."His alma mater, Texas A&M University, honored him with the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2003.
