   Rob Cann, our Policy Co-ordinator, is one of the newer members of staff in the Living Streets team.Having previously worked for the Ramblers, he started working here in May 2007, and has already made himself indispensible to colleagues, supporters and contacts of the organisation.
   
   Rob co-ordinates our responses to key pieces of government policy and proposed legislation, making sure the pedestrian lobby gets its voice heard at every stage of the legislative process.Recent responses from Rob have covered the Local Transport Bill, the Department for Transport's Cycling Infrastructure Consultation, and the Planning White Paper.
   
   He also develops our range of policy briefings, which set out the Living Streets view on certain topics.They are designed to be used both for information and as a great lobbying tool for local campaigners.He's currently working on two brand new topics for briefings: one on health (exploring the links between walking and health) and a policy paper to outline our views on shared surfaces and shared space schemes.To gather input from members and other interested professionals on shared space schemes Rob recently conducted an online survey, which attracted a strong and detailed response - many thanks if you responded to this.Rob is currently analysing the results, and the policy paper should be ready early next year.
   
   Rob says that the best thing about his role here is that he gets the opportunity to influence decision makers on a topic that he is passionate about.The worst part of the job is the need for a cycled commute across central London, with bendy buses a particular hazard of a morning!In his spare time he's a musician and dj, and an ardent supporter of Shrewsbury Town FC

   Rob Cann is Policy Co-ordinator at Living Streets.Until 2007 he was a campaigns officer at the Ramblers' Association, where he played a large part in developing the campaign policy for access to the English coast.He also managed and developed volunteers promoting the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, and organised lobbying events with parliamentarians.Prior to the Ramblers he worked for Transport for London in Street Management.His interests include pedestrian-friendly street design, promoting sustainable transport, music, and Shrewsbury Town FC.
