NICHOLAS M. CANN
Nicholas is a member of our Insurance Defence Practice Group and Health Law Practice Group and has practiced almost exclusively in the area of insurance and professional liability defence litigation since he began his articles with our firm in 2004. Nicholas was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he attended the University of British Columbia, obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in History in 2000. He attended the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws, with Distinction, in 2004.
Nicholas' practice includes property damage, bodily injury, construction losses, aviation losses, product liability, and wrongful dismissal matters, as well as subrogated claims and coverage opinions. He has provided advice to, and acts for, several of Saskatchewan's statutory bodies and has defended on behalf of numerous professionals in Saskatchewan, including engineers, financial advisors, physicians and surgeons, accountants, realtors, insurance agents, and educators. Nicholas has assisted clients in Saskatchewan's Small Claims Court, Provincial Court, Court of Queen's Bench, and Court of Appeal, including acting as co-counsel in two civil jury trials.
Nicholas is qualified as a Mediator pursuant to the guidelines set by the Law Society of Saskatchewan. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association, and the Law Society of Saskatchewan. Nicholas is the co-author of "Professional Negligence - Causation: Making Sense of Athey v. Leonati" - Saskatchewan Legal Education Society Inc. - Tort Law Decisions Highlights, 2005. He volunteers with the Canadian Youth Business Foundation and the Regina Free Legal Clinic. Since 2004, Nicholas has played an active role with the Regina Bar Association. He has served as a Director and Vice-President, as well as serving as President of the Association from 2006-2008. -
