   After acting in Marsha Cann's one-act thesis adaptation, Himes auditioned for a play on a dare and was cast in the production.

   "He got bit by the bug," Cann said. "He became passionate about theater, and it just manifested itself as the Black Rep. He's like a pit bull when he decides he wants to do something."
   
   Aside from Himes, Marsha Cann is the only Black Rep associate who was around for the beginning of the theater group, and was the only black theater major at Washington University at the time.

   After graduation, Cann went to New York to pursue acting. When she returned several years later, the Black Rep was going strong. "I couldn't believe it," she said.
   
   Since her permanent return to St. Louis, Cann has acted in several Black Rep productions but today primarily helps the company with fund raising.

   Cann also credited the family atmosphere as something that makes her keep coming back to the Black Rep.
   
   "Even those that haven't stayed, when they come back, it's family reunion time," she said.
