In July of 1996, Ashley did her last recital of "Still I Rise" at her grandmother's funeral; Lottie M. Cann. Ashley, at age 15, is now a freshman at Sequoia Junior High School, where she has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of the Honor Society. Ashley is very active in sports and academics. She started playing basketball in the 7th grade and has made the team every year since starting. She attended the Sonic's Basketball camp in the summer of her 7th grade year. It was a worthwhile experience for her as well as the development of her basketball career. This year she was point guard for her team and also received Most Valuable Player award from her teammates and the Coach. She moved on the court very confident, graceful and aggressive. Ashley has also participated in volleyball and track -- basketball being her favorite sport. We look forward to her playing in her college years and who knows maybe WNBA.
