Ondjiva, 07/28 - The director general of the Agrarian Development Institute (IDA), Afonso Pedro Canga, Thursday in Ondjiva, said he was satisfied with the pace in the implementation of the rural extension and development programme in Angola`s southern Cunene province.
Speaking at the end of his three-day working visit to Cunene, Afonso Canga considered as satisfactory the engagement of peasants in the production of cereals to secure food self-sufficiency in the region.
He said that the assistance provided by IDA to farmers and peasants has enabled the accomplishment of the rural extension and development programme, aiming at fighting famine and poverty in local communities.
In his turn, the head of IDA provincial department, Porfírio Samoneulu, said that under the rural extension and development programme, the institution is currently providing technical assistance and distributing seeds to 4,500 peasants organised in the district of Ombandja.
According to him, the programme will be expanded to the districts of Cuvelai, Kahama, Curoca Kuanhama and Namacunde.
During his stay in Cunene, Afonso Pedro Canga held separate meetings with local deputy governor for economic and productive affairs, Jerônimo Haleinge, and Ombandja administrator, Manuel Domingos Tabí. -
