   "We see a great opportunity here," said John Canfora, vice president of the New Jersey-based Business Alliance Capital Corp.

   Canfora was at Princeton Laundry in Port Morris as Borough President Fernando Ferrer and Jose Ithier, president of the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corp., presented substantial loan checks to two businesses in the borough's empowerment zone.

   While the empowerment zone loan reflects local government's faith in the borough's businesses, Business Alliance's participation is a signal that private investors see the South Bronx as a worthwhile risk, Canfora said.
