Dr. Jose Canela-Cacho, Former Professor, Public Policy, UC Berkeley; Research Fellow, Earl Warren Legal Institute; CEO, The Ergo Group
Dr. Canela-Cacho will discuss whether democratic governance will change in Mexico as a result of the highly contested and deeply divisive presidential and congressional elections of July 2006. Dr. Canela-Cacho will survey the elections and their outcomes, to show the difficult and unstable context in which the new Administration will operate. Dr. Canela-Cacho will also present his views on the economic and social policies the new Administration is likely to implement and the chances for their success. The presentation will also include an examination of US-Mexico relations and how they may be be affected by Mexico¹s domestic politics.
Dr. Canela-Cacho, earned his PhD at Carnegie Mellon University. He has taught law in Mexico and public policy at U.C.Berkeley, most recently at the Earl Warren Legal Institute. He served as Legal Counsel in the NAFTA office of the Mexican Embassy in Washington. He is a co-founder and CEO of Ergo Group, a California based public policy, management and information consulting firm. Dr. Canela-Cacho has published numerous journal articles in the U.S. and Mexico on public policy topics.
