Wanda Candolini Massage Therapist
Massage therapist Wanda Candolini says anyone can benefit from massage. The new member of the Truro and District Chamber of Commerce works from two locations, in Valley and through a Truro medical clinic. Wanda Candolini Massage Therapist
When Wanda Candolini received her first exhilarating massage six years ago she had little idea it was a profession she would eventually get her hands into. "I was a different person," she explains of her first-time experience. "It's a natural high." Candolini completed two years of study through the Canadian College of Natural Medicine in June. Pain is a body's alarm system and the messages it emits in the form of twinges, knots and tensions should be acknowledged, warns Candolini. "We don't pay attention to how we feel on a day to day basis." Massage therapists work in a variety of settings, often in conjunction with other health care professionals such as physiotherapists and chiropractors. Those who have never had a massage can expect to fill out a health history form on their first visit to determine the best type of massage treatment they should receive. Therapy options are discussed, and a clinical impression is formed by the therapist. "I tell you specifically what I'm going to do and how I'm going to do it," Candolini says, noting clients are welcomed to take part in each step of their consultation. "Massage therapy is different from traditional medicine in that it's a team approach," she adds. Massage for relaxation takes about an hour; those that are treatment-oriented span 30 minutes or longer. Stone massage, employing the use of warmed smooth stones, is a new treatment Candolini offers which takes about 90 minutes. Clients have the option of undressing to their level of comfort and it should be noted that only the area being treated is left exposed. The therapist is considering several long-term plans, including taking on more specialized courses and possibly offering a massage retreat. She also wants to increase awareness about the practice and the fact that everyone, regardless of age, can benefit from massage. The profession is time-forgiving for the busy mom who is able to establish hours that allow her to adequately balance family time with work.
