   Responsibilities: Catherine Candee has been leading CDL's Strategic Publishing Initiatives since May 2000.The program was launched to provide low-cost, alternative publication services for the UC community, to support widespread distribution of the materials that result from research and teaching at UC, and to foster new models of scholarly publishing through development and application of advanced technologies.CDL's eScholarship Publishing Services are increasingly offered through a collaborative effort of CDL and the University of California Press, and are a part of UC's broader effort to ensure a sustainable scholarly publishing system in the service of research and teaching.
   
   Background: Catherine has a strong commitment to innovation in scholarly communication and a history of working with faculty and scholarly societies toward those innovations.Prior to joining the CDL in 2000, she was the head of Stanford's Physics Library and was Program Officer for their "Access to Information" committee.She brings UC and scholarly publications experience to the position, having also served as head of the Astronomy/Math/Statistics Library at UC Berkeley, and at one time having developed a publications program for Berkeley's Institute for Social and Economic Studies.
   
   Education: Catherine holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State University and an M.L.I.S. from UC Berkeley.

   Responsibilities: Catherine oversees the development of programs and infrastructure that support experimentation with new forms of scholarly publishing, including the eScholarship Repository, which provides open access dissemination of working papers and peer-reviewed articles, and eScholarship Editions, an XML book publishing system.
