Mr. Cande was with Tele-Media Broadcasting as Sales Manager of WPRO AM in Providence, RI, prior to our selling to Citadel in 1997. After Citadel released Mr. Cande shortly after purchasing the company, he became Sales Manager of Jay Williams' radio stations in Worcester, MA. In early 2000, Citadel purchased the Worcester stations from Jay Williams and apologized to Mr. Cande for making the mistake of letting him go! Mr. Cande stayed with Citadel until Tele-Media Broadcasting had a position for him. Mr. Cande has been an important part of the continued success of WLKZ and is helping the WNNH staff grow to the potential we expect.

Jim Cande, general manager of WLKZ, said this is the first year the word "garden" has been added to the show's name because he wanted to emphasize that home care means more than interior improvements.

To that end, more vendors offering outdoor products such as awnings, pools and garden supplies were represented this year.

"It's really taken on all the aspects of a great home show," Cande said. "It's not just about the inside of your house it's also about the exterior and your whole yard."

He said another new twist is that WLKZ's sister station, WNNH out of Concord, also sponsored the event, allowing for a wider range of vendors and spectators.

"This year the show has gone to a much higher plateau because it's not just local vendors," Cande said.

The show has grown larger, Cande said, with this year marking the highest number of vendors ever.

Just under 70 vendors have their products on display at the show, which is being held this weekend at the Winnipesaukee Expo Center.

Last year, around 55 vendors registered for the show at the Expo Center.

Cande said this year should be a record-breaker for attendance as well.

Judging from the foot traffic Saturday afternoon, Cande expects at least a few thousand will have attended the show by the end.

The show, which is free, begins at 11 a.m. today and ends at 4 p.m.

Many spectators said they enjoyed the variety of vendors at the show.

Cande said he decided to sponsor the show not only to promote WLKZ but to help out other area businesses and organizations. He said he always allows space for local community service organizations such as the Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club to raise money at the show.

"I think not only is it a service to the community, it's a business stimulator for us and all the businesses represented at the show," Cande said.
