Brockton High School math teacher Cliff Canavan, 31, said the system is "like a three-ring circus and I'm in the wrong ring."
Canavan has a business degree and worked for EMC Corp. before he turned to teaching three years ago.He wants to get a master's in education but the regulations make it not worthwhile. For the master's to count toward full licensure -- called professional license -- teachers must first get an "initial" license.Canavan only has the very first license, called "preliminary," which is good for five years.
"I could spend $10,000 to get a master's degree and the DOE would tell me it doesn't count," he said.
