   Our own FIP President Dr Kamal K. Midha has been awarded an Honorary Membership to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPSGB) of Great Britain.Professor Midha received his certificate from departing President Hemant Patel during a special ceremony prior to the Society's AGM on Wednesday 21 May 2008.

   In his presentation speech, Hemant Patel said of Professor Midha:

   It was in the spirit of FIP President Dr Kamal Midha's call for participants to take a proactive and constructive role to address gaps and use innovative and participatory means to develop education that this initiative was officiated.

   The Council of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) convened at the 66th FIP Congress in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil on Saturday, 26th August to elect Dr Kamal K. Midha as the new President of FIP for the 2006-2010 term.
   
   The announcement was made during the first Session of the FIP Council following a vote by eligible and present FIP Council Members.
   
   Dr. Midha studied Pharmacy in India and obtained his B.Pharm. (1964) and M.Pharm. (1966) from the University of Saugar.He then went on to obtain his his Ph.D. (1969) from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, and his D.Sc. (1985) from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada.Dr. Midha is at present Professor (Adjunct) in the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition and College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada as well as Chairman of the Board of Pharmalytics Inc., a not-for-profit research institute of the University of Saskatchewan, Canada.
   
   Dr. Midha's initial active involvement with FIP began in 1980-1988 when he was appointed as a FIP Expert Member.This was followed by his election as Chairman of the Board of Pharmaceutical Sciences (BPS) (1988-1996).He has been Vice President of FIP since his election in 1998.
   
   Dr Midha's longstanding involvement and impact within many facets of FIP has spanned both the practice and scientific branches of the Federation, and will serve as a solid foundation on which to foster the goals and aims of his presidency.In his letter of candidacy, Dr Midha is quoted as saying "I am fully aware of the direction and leadership that FIP requires to ensure its future success in this changing and challenging world."
   
   FIP would like to offer sincere congratulations to Dr Midha, and best wishes for a successful and fulfilling term as FIP President.
