   The Sweetwater plant and corporate offices will still employ 263, said John Canada, director of human resources and organizational development for Gemtron.
   
   Gemtron, which employs 1,500 companywide, supplies oven doors, refrigerator shelving and other parts for major appliance makers.
   
   Canada said some of the company's customers are now making appliances in Mexico and are calling for parts supplied from Mexico.
   
   "It's just a lack of orders," Canada said Tuesday about the Sweetwater operation.
   
   Gemtron, which is a joint venture of German-based manufacturer Schott and AFG Industries in Kingsport, was founded in 1973 and also operates U.S. manufacturing facilities in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Michigan, as well as Canada and Mexico.
   
   The company handles glass fabrication, coatings, molded plastic systems, metal fabrication, electronics and systems development at its plants.
