Despite years of experience in payroll, Calgary's Anne Camroux wasn't getting the recognition she wanted. Camroux realized that "the only way to get ahead was to get the "paper" to go with 20 years of experience" so she enrolled in "Introduction to Payroll" in the fall of 1997.
Although the classroom study option was available at Mount Royal College in Calgary, Camroux chose to enrol in the Level I correspondence course because she didn't feel the need for classroom instruction with her extensive payroll background.
Also, Camroux says she was already committed to two other university courses in the evenings for her Human Resource Management certification. "I really needed the flexibility of home study that a correspondence course provides."
Camroux's employer, Ulster Petroleums Ltd., reimbursed her for tuition fees when she successfully completed Introduction to Payroll and gave her a promotion with a salary increase. "The PMCP course materials are an excellent resource to have on hand for when I'm questioned about deductions".
Camroux, satisfied with the correspondence study option, enrolled in Intermediate Payroll in this past spring and plans to complete the elective and compulsory courses required for certification as a Payroll Administrator (PA) and Payroll Supervisor (PS).
