In an article titled "Home Cooking" in last Monday's business section, Tenochtitlan owner Lazaro Campuzano indicated his landlord had refused to renew his lease at Northgate Shopping Center. Darren Dickerhoof, whose company manages the center, says Campuzano chose not to renew the lease after it had expired.

The original shop, Tenochtitlan, has been in Corvallis for more than five years, but after losing his lease on the store on Beca Avenue, owner Lazaro Campuzano was forced to relocate to a shop inside the Albertsons shopping center.

The new location is hidden from view of the street. Campuzano said he's suffered financially because of the move and the increased competition.

"Four months ago, two other tiendas popped up," he said. He said he hopes that all the businesses do well, but Campuzano isn't sure that the area can support so many Hispanic stores. His shop offers music, groceries, movies and magazines aimed at Spanish-speaking customers, including Colombians, Ecuadorans and Argentinians, although his biggest group of customers are Mexican. His most successful products are telephone cards and Spanish-language videos, and his money-wiring service.

The new location has caused his customer base to drop dramatically, he said.

"I think we're in trouble," he said.
