    Antonio Campos-Neto, M.D., Ph.D. joined IDRI in 1995 as a Senior Scientist and is now Director of the Division of Immunology. His work at IDRI has been instrumental for the development of both diagnostics and vaccines against leishmaniasis and tuberculosis. He is deeply involved in the vaccine clinical trials against leishmaniasis being developed by IDRI. Currently, his laboratory focuses on pathogenesis, antigen discovery, and pre-clinical studies in leishmaniasis and tuberculosis. He has been awarded an NIH grant for his studies on tuberculosis.

    Dr. Campos-Neto is originally from Uberaba, MG, Brazil. He earned his M.D. degree in the Medical School of Triângulo Mineiro, Uberaba, MG, and his Ph.D. from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. He was further trained as a Post Doctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School, Department of Medicine, Boston, MA. Before joining IDRI Dr. Campos-Neto held several academic positions. He was an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and subsequently Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil. From 1992 to 1995 he was a Visiting Professor at Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CT. Dr. Campos-Neto is a former President of the Brazilian Society of Immunologists, has authored more than 60 original articles, two book chapters in leishmaniasis, translated two immunology books to Portuguese, has been Ph.D. Advisor for 12 students, and holds several patents for diagnostics and vaccines of infectious diseases.
