   I had several appointments set up at PCBC, and after lunch last Thursday I met with Lenora Campois, Ph.D., Manager of Media Relations at TOTO. She introduced me to the toilet of the future: The Neorest. That this is a toilet straight out of the Jetsons there was no doubt. The thing has an AI brain. It uses ,fuzzy logic, to get to know you. I have to admit that the thought of my toilet getting to know me was an unsettling thought. ,I like to call this toilet The Marriage Saver, said Lenora as she explained its many high tech features. ,As you approach the toilet it automatically raises its lid for you. If you are a man, it will automatically raise the seat for you. When you are done just walk away. It will know you are done, flush itself and lower the seat and lid automatically., I was impressed. ,How much does this cost?, I asked. ,Wait, there,s more!, Lenora said with a smile. It turns out the toilet of the future has no water bowl and no plumbing, so it never runs or breaks. No more trips to the hardware store to buy a new chain or flapper. Lenora explained that if anything ever goes wrong with the toilet -- which is highly unlikely -- the company sends out an engineer -- not a repairman, an engineer -- and if it can not be fixed on the spot, they immediately install a brand new unit.

   With a smile Lenora informed me there was more. ,The Neorest is designed with lumbar support so if a person likes to read, the seat is extremely comfortable. Also, the seat is heated, and the temperature can be adjusted to your personal preference., While I stood looking with amazement at this technological marvel, she continued, ,The unit also has a built-in catalytic deodorizer, which automatically engages and eliminates unpleasant odors from the room and relieves the worry of after-smell.,

   ,A natural market,, Lenora continued, ,is government buildings and facilities. These are extremely low maintenance, self-cleaning, uses no toilet paper, lowers the seat and lid automatically, it is a cost-savings and logical choice for public buildings., The bottom line, Lenora explained to me, is that this toilet is the first significant advancement in toilets in decades, and it answers all of the pressing issues and problems with the current model, from the important -- giving back to the ill and elderly some measure of independence and dignity -- to solving both personal and toilet hygene issues.
