"We have heard from many citizens over the last number of years that they feel with the city's growth and size that it's time to review this and look at a citywide elected mayor," said Del Campo, who wants to serve on the committee with Councilman Dennis Gillette. "This is not to replace a city management-style of government."
Del Campo said the committee would look at what other cities of similar size -- 120,000 population-- are doing.
"We may find out what we are doing is fine and may find no reason to change anything or find some reason to tweak a few things here and there."
Del Campo also wants the committee to examine and more clearly define the roles and responsibilities of the mayor and mayor pro tem.
Currently the mayor and mayor pro tem positions are rotated annually among the five council members.
"One of the things I wanted to have the committee take a look is which is most advantageous to the city -- continue the rotation system or having a specifically elected mayor," Gillette said.
Gillette said the upside to the rotation method is each council member has the opportunity to be mayor.

Del Campo said he's brought up the issue during his mayoral duties last year as did Gillette during his term as mayor the year before. -

Del Campo, who recently moved to Oak Shores, is a former Thousand Oaks city councilman and mayor. He has said he plans to run there again if his bid in San Luis Obispo County is unsuccessful.
