Victoria Campbell got her first on-air job at News 4 in 1987.Before she moved to Reno, she worked at KFSN-TV in Fresno. Her first jobs in the business were "behind the scenes," working on the assignment desk and helping reporters set up their stories.
Victoria got into the news business by accident. She earned her first degree in Theatre Arts because she wanted to be an actress. But she needed to minor in another subject in school, so she chose Journalism. She enjoyed her classes so much that she ended up getting a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from California State University, Fresno and started working as soon as she graduated.
What Victoria really enjoys about being a news reporter is the unpredictability, the fact that she never, ever has the same day twice. She loves meeting new people every day, learning about their jobs, and learning more about the world. She says she doesn't think she "would enjoy a job that didn't offer such a diverse experience."
When Victoria came to work at News 4 as a reporter, she was assigned to the Crime and Court beat, which is right up her alley."My favorite kind of story is one that involves a criminal investigation or any kind of criminal court hearing," said Victoria. However, she has covered stories on every topic imaginable.
Some of the most memorable stories Victoria holds most dear are the ones that involve people who have triumphed over adversity. For example, the Stolpa family, who were lost in the snow and managed to survive, were particularly memorable for their determination to survive. The Angelini family, who lost their father in a robbery/murder, went on to form a Victim's Rights Advocacy."People like them remind me that anything is possible, even under the most terrible circumstances," said Victoria.
Victoria is a native Californian and was raised in a little town called Sanger, about 15 miles east of Fresno in the Central Valley. She loves to travel and her favorite cities are London and San Francisco. In her off time, she likes to write, read, and design cross-stitch projects for her friends. She thanks her parents, Tony and Joan Campbell, for all of their love and support.
