Villa Julie attracts students from every county in the state and now, hopefully, from the region, according to Tim Campbell, Villa Julie's executive director for financial affairs, who has been overseeing the campus' development.

Villa Julie has approximately 2,500 students, of which 97 percent are from Maryland, and two-thirds of the student body is female. Mr. Campbell said the gender proportion is typical "if you don't offer engineering or have football."

Mr. Campbell said Villa Julie is paying $30 million for the land and construction of the campus. The campus will include the seven four-story residence buildings and a 10,000-square-foot student community center, all facing a central landscaped quadrangle.

But Villa Julie is not stopping there. It is also eyeing property on either side of the residential campus for possible expansion. Mr. Campbell said the college is in negotiations with Boulevard Realty to buy an additional eight acres on which it intends to build two dormitories and a 90,000-square-foot academic center.

Mr. Campbell said the college hopes to break ground in a few months on the first of the two dormitories.
    ...
Although school officials admit to having "butterflies" about such a major, expensive step, "we didn't feel there was much downside" to building the residential campus, said Mr. Campbell.
    ...
Mr. Campbell said that among the tenants may be an Outback Steak House, along with other restaurants and a coffee shop. He said the college is looking into an arrangement with the restaurants for student meal credits.

"The students like being able to walk to a coffee shop. The campus is near a mall," he said.
