Santa Ynez Valley resident Tim Campbell has been re-elected as chairman of the statewide association of local agency formation commissions, or LAFCOs.
It will be his second year at the post.
Mr. Campbell, chairman of the Santa Barbara LAFCO, has been a member of the commission since 1994. He is the director of the Cachuma Resource Conservation District, which offers soil conservation services and protects water quality in local streams.
The California Association of LAFCOs was create to "improve the quality of LAFCO activities in California and to monitor and shape legislation that is vital to the structure of local governments," according to the group.
The agencies exist in each county of the state and help prevent urban sprawl, encourage "orderly governmental boundaries" and preservation of agricultural land. They regulate annexations to cities and special districts and incorporations of new cities.
Mr. Campbell was named "Public Servant of the Year" in 2000 by the Goleta Chamber of Commerce. He was at the helm of the local LAFCO when Goleta accomplished its incorporation. -
