Steve Campbell, the president of the Dallas/Fort Worth Herpetological Society, said snake activity could have increased due to recent rain storms.
"Rain certainly will displace some snakes because they will look for higher ground," he said.
Campbell said an abundance of copperheads, as well as about four other venomous snake species, can be found in Wise County, particularly in the LBJ National Grasslands.
He said people need to be cautious when walking or performing activities in areas where snakes could be.
"Would you not look both ways before crossing the street?" Campbell said he asks children during presentations. -
