"We understand the recreational importance of North Catamount, and we're looking at some other options to change that," said Scott Campbell, manager of field operations for CSU.
"I'm optimistic we can find a way," he said, declining to be more specific. "It's one of the details that we're working on."
Shortened hours of access to the North Slope are a possibility. At present, the hours of operation are sunrise to sunset. Otherwise, all established recreational activities would continue.

Low water levels in the North Slope and Rampart reservoirs are likely this summer, Campbell said.
The South Slope of Pikes Peak will remain closed to public access this year. However, the Pikes Peak Multi-Use Plan anticipates allowing public use of two proposed trails across portions of that watershed in the future.
One would cross the watershed north of Bighorn Reservoir, connecting an existing trail with the Pikes Peak Highway. A longer trail would connect Captain Jack's Trail near Lake Moraine to Barr Trail via Big Tooth Reservoir.
No significant security issues are associated with the proposed trails, but the longer one may have some water-quality implications.

"We want to provide the recreation, but protection of the water supply has to be our top priority," Campbell said. "I think the public understands that."

Access points will be the same as in the past, according to Scott Campbell, manager of field operations for Colorado Springs Utilities.
By preliminary proposals, vehicular traffic would have been blocked on the south side of South Catamount Dam. Access to its north shore and to North Catamount Reservoir, therefore, would have required additional walking or bicycling.
"We gave it careful consideration, and we're comfortable with what we now have," Campbell said. "Unless, of course, we receive credible security threats, and then it's a whole new ballgame."
The North Slope will not be open in October, and the reservoirs will not be accessible during the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
The water level in Rampart on Friday was relatively high, but probably will drop noticeably with municipal demands. -

Scott Campbell of CSU has stated that the map was misunderstood and frustrating to those at the 1st meeting and that it is being revised for the 2nd public meeting. The revision will supposedly zone only CSU land (not National Forest) and he also has stated that the placing of Zone 2 corridors is ongoing and that all "accepted use" trails on CSU property will have Zone 2 corridors around them.
