DARYL CAMPBELL
...
Daryl was born and raised in Ann Arbor, which is on the west side of the 7th District. His life in public service was inspired by his father, who ran and won several terms on the Ann Arbor School Board. Daryl realized that it's better to be a part of the process than a bystander and began his life in public service as a cub scout. Moving from Cub Scout to Boy Scout Daryl enjoyed the benefits of scouting. Sports moved Daryl away from scouting. Wrestling became the new life for Daryl and he became one of the best at his trade, winning several titles and championships as he moved through his teen years. After graduating from high school Daryl joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1991. Daryl was immediately hired by the Washtenaw County Sheriff Department where he has enjoyed a 14 year career and has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Daryl has been a high school wrestling coach at Ann Arbor Huron School, for the past 15 years. In order to support his family, Daryl obtained a real estate license and became a Realtor. Daryl took this opportunity and turned it into a very successful small business. Daryl's company has consistently been ranked as one of the highest producing offices and his business model has become a model that other Realtors and small business owners have copied with success.
Daryl has worked tirelessly to promote the community and to help others. He is a G.R.E.A.T. instructor, Community Oriented Policing Specialist, SWAT Certified, CPTED Certified, (Campus and Urban Security Planning), Ann Arbor Board of Realtors Governmental Affairs committee and most importantly Daryl has been married to Nicolle for 11 years and they have two beautiful daughters, Alanna, and Brianna. -

ANN ARBOR - Daryl Campbell, a sheriff's deputy and self-employed real estate agent, will try for a new job as he campaigns for a seat in Michigan's 7th Congressional District.
Campbell, a self-proclaimed moderate Democrat, said he has never run for public office before, but knows the responsibilities of serving his country because of his time in the U.S. Army.

Campbell, a sergeant with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department, is one of three Democrats and two Republicans, including freshman U.S. Rep.

"It gives me a good perspective on where we need to be (as a country) every day," Campbell said of his job in law enforcement. "I get to see the problems with drugs. I get to see domestic violence. I get to see people doing things they never ever would do except for the economy being where it is."
Campbell is a resident of Washtenaw County's Scio Township, which is near Ann Arbor but in the 7th Congressional District.
The campaign's most important issue is defense, Campbell said. He wants to reinstitute funding for community oriented policing, as well as bolster other federal money for police. He said current funding is dangerously low.
"What we've done in essence is cut off our first line of defense," he said.
Calling education his pet issue, Campbell said one of the first pieces of legislation he would draft would be a teacher education bill. He said the legislation would allow teachers' student loans to be paid off by the government if they allow themselves to be assigned to an at-need school for five years.
Campbell won't make a concerted effort to distinguish himself from his competition in the Aug. 8 democratic primary, he said.
"All the other candidates are wonderful," he said. "I had the opportunity to talk to them at a forum. They're all very nice folks."
Campbell also had kind words for his potential rival in the Nov. 7 general election. Campbell said Schwarz has "done a good job."
