MONROVIA - Monrovia High School girls basketball coach Rafael Camacho's voice was hoarse after Wednesday night's 63-55 Rio Hondo League victory over visiting Blair.
That's because Camacho continuously was teaching - very loudly - his girls the fine art of defense and rebounding, about bringing the ball to the chest and smothering it so opponents can't tip it or strip it away.
The Wildcats apparently listened in the fourth quarter.Monrovia, tied at 48 with 6:30 to play, went on an 8-0 run and it was enough to keep the Wildcats tied for the league lead.
Monrovia and Blair are 2-1 in league play.
"Toward the end, the kids were getting it," Camacho said.
...
Camacho said he knew the Vikings, who played a full-court press for most of the game, would recover from their slow start.
"I expected them to come back because you can't count them out," he said.
