Announces Return of Dr. Joseph Callerame as Vice President, Science and Technology
BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 2004--American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AMEX: ASE) (AS&E(R)), a leader in X-ray detection technology, announced today the return of Dr. Joseph Callerame to AS&E as Vice President, Science and Technology, effective April 15, 2004.Dr. Callerame has been on sabbatical in Florence, Italy, for the past 11 months.

Prior to joining AS&E in 1998, Dr. Callerame served at Raytheon Electronic Systems as Manager of Engineering and Technology Development.From 1993 to 1994 he served as Deputy General Manager of the Research Division of Raytheon, and from 1989 to 1992 he was Assistant General Manager of this Division.Prior to serving as Assistant General Manager, Dr. Callerame held the position of Manager, Infrared Detector Laboratory and the Stable Sources Laboratory.From 1977 to 1980, Dr. Callerame was a senior scientist in Medical Ultrasound at Raytheon's Research Division.Dr. Callerame earned his Ph.D. and master's degree in physics from Harvard University, and holds a bachelor's degree in chemical physics from Columbia University.Dr. Callerame also served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Physics at MIT from 1975 to 1977.
