A newcomer to Suisun City politics, 39-year-old Brian Cain has thrown his hat into the ring for the November City Council election. He's among four candidates vying for two seats on the council.

A resident of Suisun City for the past nine years, Cain says it's time for municipal government to become more accessible to the residents of the community.

"One of my top priorities is to really make government here transparent to the public," said Cain, who works in telecommunications for AT&T.

In the past, Cain said, city government has exhibited an aloof attitude toward its citizens.

"They've been very, very arrogant toward the people of Suisun City.Whenever you try to go in and voice your concerns, they turn a deaf ear to you," said the U.S. Air Force veteran, who holds the reserve rank of technical sergeant with the 349 Communications Squadron at nearby Travis Air Force Base.

"If I'm elected, whatever I know, I want the citizens to know, too," Cain said."I'd like to hold community forums, town hall meetings, to get people more involved."

Cain was a firm opponent of locating a huge Wal-Mart Supercenter near Walters Road and Highway 12 on the eastern edge of town.

"It's the wrong place. The building does not fit the property there," said Cain, charging "gross negligence" in the approval of the site."It's too close to Travis."
