   Carlos Cabrera, Southern California Program Coordinator Carlos Cabrera was born and raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California. He is of Salvadoran descent, is trilingual (Spanish and French) and has a reading knowledge of Latin. Carlos received his Associate of Arts degree from Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, where he collaboratively revived and presided over the LAMBDA Student Association, the College's gay-straight alliance, for two years. Carlos then transferred to UCLA where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature in June, 2005. While at UCLA, Carlos was the president of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society on campus. He also was a recipient of the Brueck Research Scholarship for his senior honors thesis on the various portrayals of St. Sebastian - often titled "the gay saint" - in late Victorian literature. It was during his time at UCLA that Carlos discovered his passion for poetry. His upcoming first book, tentatively titled THE PEACOCK'S SONG: A LOVE SONG IN SEVENTEEN SYLLABLES, is scheduled for release later this year. Carlos is also an active speaker with G.L.I.D.E. (Gays and Lesbians Initiating Dialogue for Equality) and is a volunteer with LifeWorks Mentoring. He is a practicing Nichiren Daishonin Buddhist actively involved with Soka Gakkai International and will soon be appointed a district leader of the young men's division. A fan of Greco-Roman art and of long, philosophical conversations, Carlos lives in West Los Angeles with Dorian, his suspiciously intelligent two-year-old cat.
