Mrs. Linda Stokley Byrd is in her third year at Mary G. Montgomery High School.She came to MGM with 13 years experience teaching middle and high school grade levels.She holds a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree as well as an Education Specialists Degree from Troy State University.Mrs. Byrd is a member of several professional organizations including Music Educators National Conference, Alabama Bandmasters Association, Women Band Directors National Association, and the Mobile County Band Directors Association.

Black Clergywomen of the United Methodist Church ( BCWUMC ) met here for the first time and began developing strategies to deal with the many justice issues they face in the church.The organization is the result of a 1988 consultation and creation of an African-American Clergywoman's Steering Committee led by Bishop Leontine Kelly.
