Those who choose to focus their academic careers on some aspect of minority studies face a complex set of issues and problems. This session will consider matters of training , employment , collegiality , tenure and promotion , territoriality ( both racial and disciplinary ) , classroom dynamics , identity ( personal and professional ) , and service to the institution and community. The personal , the professional , and the political endlessly intersect in such a life work as institutional attitudes toward race are played out in a somewhat different matter from the experience of falcutly of color. The underlying question is the meaning of trying to be an ally in a professional setting.
