Council and Mr Butcher
But none of this could happen without the wisdom, guidance and confidence of the College Council and College Trust. When one reads our balance sheet, it seems that we are taking big risks in pursuing the rapid process of development that the College had undergone over the past five years.Yet, our Members of Council and Trust continue to see the benefit in taking advantage of our current operational profile to ensure that the College lays down a legacy of facilities and infrastructure that will serve this and future generations of Albanians.
David Butcher has already offered his own farewell earlier this morning and our new Chairman of Council, Mike Beaumont will offer a formal tribute later in the programme.
...
But I would like to add my own words of thanks to David.
Over the past five years I have come to rely so much on his wisdom, strength, encouragement and his ability to get to the nub of an issue. Each and every single improvement, upgrade or new project that has been wrought at this College over the past five years, started out as an idea or a dream that was mooted in the Headmaster's Study over a cup of tea or at one meeting or another.David joined our Council a lifetime ago, back in July 1981, and he has had a profound impact on the way the College has developed over the past twenty five years.
At St Paul's Cathedral in London is a plaque in honour of Sir Christopher Wren which reads: "Lector, si monumentum requires, circumspice" (Reader, if you seek his monument, look around you): David, all of us here at St Alban's in this generation, those past and indeed those to come, can say the same of you , thank you!
