"There has been a really big effort on the part of local students within the cities we serve to help the tsunami victims," said Albert Bustos, assistant director of public support at the American Red Cross in Whittier.

"Most times we didn't even know the fund-raising was going on -- we would just get a call from them asking if they could donate their money to us," he added.
