David has been involved in environmental issues for over 40 years and has been specifically working in waste and recycling and Producer Responsibility issues for over 20 years.
David is a Chartered Environmentalist and a long standing Member of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management and an Associate of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
Responsible for the development of the first paperbanks in the UK, David also launched the first domestic wheeled bin collection for recycling and some of the earliest reverse logistics operations for recyclates from key retailers.
As a founder member and first convenor of the voluntary UK Buy Recycled Programme, David is dedicated to stimulating 'demand led' development of recycling rather than 'supply push' - thus avoiding mountains of recyclate.
Having previously been closely involved in the packaging waste debate since 1996, in more recent years, David has focused his attentions on business clients developing opportunities under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006 (as amended 2007).
In May 2006 David Burton was appointed to sit on the (previously DTI now BERR) WEEE Advisory Group - a recognition of his extensive experience in the area of Producer Responsibility and recycling.
David has taken pleasure in growing organic products for over 30 years.
His other interests include cycling and hiking in the beautiful surround countryside of Shropshire.
