CAR'S THE STAR: Chris Burton, marketing manager of Ascari, with the KZ1, which won a poll to determine which supercar should appear in a film remake of the persuadersCAR'S THE STAR: Chris Burton, marketing manager of Ascari, with the KZ1, which won a poll to determine which supercar should appear in a film remake of the persuadersSupercar lands top movie roleA SUPERCAR manufacturer is set for film fame after its 200mph creation won a lead role in an upcoming Hollywood blockbuster.The sleek and stylish Ascari KZ1 has been chosen to star in the tinseltown remake of the 1970s TV comedy-crime series The Persuaders which is due to start filming next summer.The £235,000 machine came top in a international poll of 35 cars voted for by readers of Car Magazine beating the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Corvette, Aston Martin and TVR.The competition began last summer and ended in April.Chris Burton, marketing manager at the Overthorpe Road factory in Banbury, said: "We're all thrilled, it's extremely good news.

"Over the past 18 months we've firmly established ourselves as a world-class super car manufacturer," said Mr Burton.He is flying to the Cannes Film Festival this weekend to meet Brass Hat bosses, who commissioned the Car Magazine poll.Created in 1995, Ascari brought together its Kent race car facility and Dorset road car plant into one state-of-the-art factory in Banbury in 2000 where it began to develop the KZ1 - named after the company's petrol tycoon founder Klass Zwart.The factory employs 45 staff, from designers and mechanics to painters and racing drivers and it is in racing the company has its roots.As well as GT3 Team, Ascari compete in events all over the world including Le Mans and have their own hi-tech racing facility in Spain, complete with the country's longest race track at 5.5km.Only 50 KZ1s are being made and so far the company has sold 11, though Mr Burton expected to sell out following the kudos of starring in a Hollywood movie.
