Chris started out as a runner on the sets of commercials and gradually climbed the ladder through the camera department taking time out to study in 1999 at the National Film School Short Course Unit.
Chris has worked on commercials, dramas and has travelled the world shooting documentaries. He is very experienced with both film and video shoots and also in the organisation of foreign travel , including the preparation and procedures for customs carnets.
Between 2000 and 2003 Chris worked mostly on drama shoots and counts the following feature films and broadcast productions amongst his focus pulling credits: '24 Hour Party People', 'There's Only One Jimmy Grimble', 'Parole Officer', 'The League Of Gentlemen' and 'Phoenix Nights'.
Since 2003, Chris has worked mostly on documentaries and has travelled extensively including USA, Canada, Arctic, Lebanon, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Morocco and most of Europe. Memorable jobs include a film for National Geographic about landmines and he also served as Director Of Photography on a job about icebergs in the Canadian Arctic.
Chris has experience in both hazardous situations and extreme climates. He has operated a camera in many varied locations; from the bottom of a 500ft deep coal mine to minefields in the Middle East and on luxury yachts surrounded by dolphins to sub zero oilfields in the North Atlantic Arctic!
In 1999, Chris established a mail order company selling gadgets on the internet. The business grew and was disposed in 2006. At one point, the business had a 7-figure turnover and employed 22 staff. The knowledge gained through this venture gave him a very firm grounding in business practice and day to day office procedures. Chris still has fingers in pies and continues to operate Battery Studio, a specialist supplier of batteries to the TV/Film industry.
When not working, Chris enjoys computers and the net, panoramic photography and walking in the country with Tinker, his Border Collie and Shadow, his Siberian Husky. He lives in Alkrington, North Manchester and is trying to learn the guitar, speak Romanian and paraglide!
His freelance website contains his showreel and diary at www.lizard-king.com.
