   The Nitty Gritty was founded by Terri Burt, 33, a Highlands-born Louisvillian. She was joined a year and a half ago by Michelle Volz, 37, a native New Yorker. Burt opened the Nitty Gritty with its gallery aspect in mind, to allow the young and agentless a chance to display their art to the community. Burt says Tidwell's show is a different experience for the store, because he is an established artist as opposed to a college student trying to break into the gallery world.
   
   The Nitty Gritty features a new artist's display every month.

   Nitty Gritty owner Terri Burt said, "Ties from the '40s are my favorite -- simple silk usually with a classy pattern down the front. The '50s and early '60s produced narrow ties, and the '70s just got wide and fat ties, with crazy, crazy patterns and colors. Necktie styles have come and gone but never seem to go out of fashion."
