Tequia, a native Chicagoan, is a graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa. She received her BA in Race and Ethnicity Studies with a focus in English Literature. While in college she was a newspaper editor, published academic essays on science fiction writer Octavia Butler and the Harlem Renaissance, and spoke at several conferences on the challenges black authors face in the literary field. Currently she is in the process of starting a zine that draws on the talents of young writers and artists from all over the country. -
