The 8-year-old organization is one of a few Michigan entities working on ways to narrow the technology gap between the disabled and the nondisabled. Eighty percent of the group's staff, including Burt, has a disability. And today, The Disability Network officially opens its new technology center. Although the facility features special equipment that allows people with disabilities to surf the Internet, it is open to all residents of Genesse and Shiawasee counties. The community technology center is one of three backed by Flint's Mott Community College. The other centers focus on bridging the other digital divide. Among The Disability Network's allies: Birmingham-based Internet start-up and online disability community Ican Inc.
