By Joe Burt, Massena Baptist Church
...
Pastor Joe Burt is celebrating 12 years in the community.
The church actually began as a Bible Study that was started by Joe Burt in January 1990 in the home of Joe and Sharon Collins.
...
Burt came to New York as a Church Planter for the First Christian Church of Brushton, Adirondack Baptist Association, Baptist Convention of New York and the Home Mission Board of the SBC, (now known as the North American Mission Board). To begin a work in Massena, this was not his or his wife Peggy's first experience in New York.
Pastor Burt was born in Hornell, NY and his family moved to Newport News, VA where they became active in a Southern Baptist Church Start. Burt was only 5 when the Warwick Baptist Church built it's first building but the memory still is with him today. In 1964 his family moved to Webster, NY and after sometime became part of Rochester Baptist Church home Bible study in the Webster area.
...
Burt fondly remembers helping to clear the property and build the building.
