   SUU spokeswoman Jennifer Burt says enrollment grew 6 percent compared to last year. Overall the school's enrollment shows 3.5 percent increase over totals at the state's other public colleges and universities.
   
   Burt says SUU's small classes, respected professors and affordability make the school increasingly popular.

   Burt hired as SUU communications director
   
   CEDAR CITY - Jennifer Burt, who has taught writing classes at Utah Valley State College for the past year, has been hired as director of communications at Southern Utah University.
   
   Burt replaces Renee Ballenger, who left earlier this year to work for the Nebraska Public Power District.

   "I'm excited to return to Cedar City," said Burt, who completed her two years of undergraduate studies at SUU. "The campus community at SUU is more positive and involved than any other school I've experienced. I'm happy to join in, and look forward to contributing to the university's continued success."
   
   Burt also has worked in development and alumni relations at the Medical University of Ohio and Bowling Green State University.
