Partner Family law
Alison specialises in cases involving children, particularly those involving social services and issues of medical treatment. She has particular expertise in cases involving allegations of non-accidental injury, especially Shaken Baby Syndrome.
She acts for both children and parents and is qualified to appear as an advocate in the Family Proceedings Court, County Court and High Court. Alison has been instructed by the Official Solicitor to represent adults under a disability in a number of complex cases. Alison's other interests are international cases, including child abduction, in which she is regularly instructed on behalf of the International Child Abduction and Contact Unit. She also acts for same-sex parents in children's cases.
One of her key cases was the much-reported case of 're C', where Alison represented the mother of a baby who opposed the local authority's wish to test the child for HIV.
Alison is joint author of the chapter on family law in Advising Clients with HIV and AIDS (Butterworths). She has also written on child contact, domestic violence and care proceedings.
Alison has been a member of the Law Society's Children Panel since 2000, and is an Advanced Member of its Family Law Panel. She is a member of the Policy Group which advises the Board of International Social Services and formerly sat on the Management Committee of Rights of Women.
Alison read law at Cambridge. She joined Bindmans as a trainee and qualified as a solicitor in 1993.
