LuLu Bursztyn McMaster wrestler Lulu Bursztyn has been selected as one of eight Academic All-Canadians by Ontario University Athletics. Bursztyn will be honoured at the 11th annual Academic All-Canadian Celebration, taking place Thursday, June 10 at the Chateau Mont Ste-Anne in Quebec.
One female and one male from each of Canadian Interuniversity Sports' (CIS) four Regional Associations are selected annually as "Top 8 Academic All-Canadians". They are considered the best and brightest of the more than 1,800 student-athletes that are recognized annually as Academic All-Canadians.
Bursztyn has earned two OUA wrestling medals in her four years at McMaster and added a different kind of medal this past November when she was honoured with the Chancellor's Gold Medal, one of the top University prizes. The Chancellor's Gold Medal is awarded annually to the student that ranks highest in scholarship, leadership and influence. This was the pinnacle for Bursztyn, who has received numerous academic awards during her time at McMaster.
Apart from representing McMaster as a wrestler and an academic, Bursztyn has also been heavily involved in the McMaster Engineering Society, holding several leadership positions and tutoring younger students.
Coach Nick Cipriano has called Bursztyn "every coach's dream student-athlete; hard working, high achieving and bright."
...
Therese Quigley, director of athletics at McMaster, matches Cipriano's sentiments: "[Lulu] is an extraordinarily gifted student-athlete who welcomes the challenges of an extraordinary rigorous academic and athletic programme.
