   Since 1988, Ms. Burstein has designed and implemented successful communications strategies and high-profile campaigns for social justice issues. She has focused her efforts on death penalty and criminal justice reform since 1996, promoting U.S. Supreme Court cases, academic studies, federal and state reform legislation, and numerous innocence cases. Her efforts played a significant role in reframing policy debates on the death penalty issue.
   
   Ms. Burstein has helped propel the death penalty issue to front-page news, generating coverage by every major national news outlet in the country, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Associated Press, Parade Magazine, National Public Radio, Time Magazine, New York Times Magazine, and on programs, including CNN Larry King Live, Oprah, NBC Today Show, ABC World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, among dozens of other national and state media outlets.
   
   Ms. Burstein has run communications departments for two national social justice organizations and a prominent public relations firm. She also served as co-director of a social issue public relations firm in New York. Ms. Burstein shared in two PR industry awards , The Silver Anvil and the Bulldog Reporter , for her work on environmental issues, and was one of the "Top Ten Media Heroes of the Year" in 1994 for her work on the Haiti Public Information Campaign.

   Laura Burstein is the Director of Communications for The Justice Project and the Criminal Justice Reform Education Fund. Laura is one of the most respected media experts in the death penalty field. She has designed and implemented communications strategies on landmark death penalty reform projects including the first widely publicized report on innocence (with Death Penalty Information Center); the first national conference that brought death row exonerees together on one stage (with Northwestern University); the groundbreaking "Broken System" studies that offered the first statistical analysis of error rates in all capital appeals (with Columbia University School of Law); and the 100th death row exoneration, among countless other efforts.
   
   Laura has propelled the death penalty reform issue to front-page news, generating literally thousands of newspaper, magazine, television and radio stories and editorials on problems with the capital punishment system.
   
   Laura has worked in public relations for more than 17 years on human rights and environmental issues. She has received public relations industry honors including the Public Relation Society of America's Silver Anvil Award and the Bulldog Reporter. She was also named one of the "Top Ten Media Heroes of the Year" in 1994.
