William Burson, accident investigator for the Denton police department, said the accident occured shortly before 2:30 p.m., on southbound I-35E, near Fouts Field Mean Green Stadium at the University of North Texas.
He said the semi first hit a bridge barricade and lost control, then crossed the southbound lanes and hit one vehicle. Next, it hit the concrete center divider and crossed into the northbound lanes, where it struck a small pickup and a Kia traveling north.
The semi truck driver was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, Burson said. The driver of the Kia was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with severe injuries, he said. -

The crash was one of the worst in recent years in Denton County, said Officer William Burson of the Denton Police Department.
"I don't know if we've had a wreck that had this many people in a single vehicle killed and injured," Officer Burson said.
Police closed northbound lanes of Interstate 35W about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, diverting traffic to County Road 407 and U.S. Highway 377, which runs parallel to the busy interstate. Crews kept all northbound lanes closed until about 5 p.m.
