Tim Burson joined Bovis, Kyle & Burch, LLC's Surety, Fidelity, and Construction practice in 1989 as an associate.He became a member of the firm in 1996.Tim practiced in construction and related areas dating back to his admission to the bar in Louisiana in 1986, including work with a private firm handling large-scale bank closings for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in the southwest, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.
To complement his practice in fidelity and surety matters, Tim directs collection activities for several clients, regularly practices in the federal bankruptcy courts, and routinely defends banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions in claims under financial institution bonds.He has handled salvage and subrogation claims for a variety of clients, including ERISA plans.
Tim is admitted to a number of courts due to the needs of the firm's surety and fidelity and related clients for representation on a regional basis.The State Bar of Georgia (1990); The Louisiana State Bar; The United States Court of Appeal for the Eleventh Circuit; The United States Court of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit; The United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana; The United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana; The United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.The United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia; The United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.Because of numerous Miller Acts claims and recovery efforts from government owners for the firm's surety clients, Tim has also been admitted to The United States Claims Court.Tim has also been admitted on a pro hac vice basis to state and/or federal courts in Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Tim has written and frequently presented subjects for fidelity and surety groups, at seminars and continuing education presentations in house and through larger industry associations, including a chapter in the ABA Torts and Insurance Practice Section's The Law of Probate Bonds.Since Bovis, Kyle and Burch, LLC's charter membership in the Southern Surety and Fidelity Claims Association, Tim and other firm attorneys have prepared papers and topics for publication and discussion at each of the annual conferences held in Atlanta and other southern cities.
Tim graduated in the top 25% of his class at The University of Alabama School of Law (J.D. 1985).He served as a member and competed for the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board through which Tim was also a teaching assistant and instructor in Legal Bibliography and appellate writing courses.He also served as an editor on the University's Law and Psychology Review 1983-85.He was a member and officer of the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society and a member and officer of the Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity.Tim also served as an Honor Court Justice as a law student and co-chaired the orientation program for first year law students in 1984.Tim's service as a student and leader in the University's school of law was recognized through his receipt of the Dean Thomas A. Christopher Leadership Award awarded annually to one student and one teacher at the University of Alabama School of Law during the Honors Week Program.
Tim developed his writing skills through his Journalism major with double minors in English and Political Science at The University of Alabama (B.A. News Editorial 1982).He combined activities, academics and work, making the Dean's list four times.While in undergraduate school, Tim was a reporter for both the Tuscaloosa News and the University's student newspaper, The Crimson and White.Tim also served on the University's Avanti team as a counselor to freshmen students for two years.
Tim was born in Birmingham Alabama 10/27/58.He moved with mother and younger sister to West Georgia in 1968 after his father's death.Tim lettered in high school football as a linebacker and running back at Forest Park Senior High School in Clayton County, Georgia.Tim is active in a number of denominational activities.He is a Certified National Trainer for Royal Ambassadors for the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.Tim is a member of the Georgia Baptist Convention's Men's Ministries Royal Ambassador Advisory Council.He serves as the Royal Ambassador Coordinator for Noonday Baptist Association in Cobb County Georgia and as a Sunday School Director for Children at Piedmont Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia.
Tim has three sons (Jonathon, John, Davis) and a daughter (Claire).Tim and Melody Burson are celebrating their 15th year of marriage.
