   Sandra Burson, co-ordinator of the tri-county branch of the ALS Society of Canada, became close to the Cahills as they publicly trumpeted the need to raise awareness of the relatively rare disease.
   
   Just last weekend, the Cahills attended an ALS fund-raising barbecue at the Loeb parking lot in Brockville, said Burson.
   
   "He seemed to be struggling," said Burson, who plans to attend Cahill's funeral service at the Barclay Funeral Home Sunday at 5 p.m.
