Rev. Burson was former President of the Baptist Ministers' Conference of Greater New York and Vicinity, President Emeritus of the New England Baptist Convention (the nation's oldest black regional convention), former President of the Hampton Ministers' Conference and served as Pastor of The Holy Trinity Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served on the Governing Committee of the Baptist World Alliance, the National Council of Church, the Board of Directors of the National Baptist Convention, USA, (the nation's largest African American organization), President of the Hampton University Ministers' Conference and as President of the Baptist Minister's Conference of Greater New York and Vicinity, where his tenure was filled with strong civic involvement, including the largest clergy-driven voter registration drives in the history of the city, intervention on behalf of the homeless and supporting other prevailing social issues of the 1980s, continuing a lifelong tradition of leadership in social and civil rights. Rev. Burson will forever be remembered as a revered member of the Baptist Community worldwide. Rev. Burson was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
