As an accomplished dancer, Rachel Burrows could see the connection between the human body and dance.
She became fascinated with the subject, especially when she began taking biology classes in junior high and at Mercer Island High School.
Burrows is the Journal's Top Grad for Outstanding Scientist on the Eastside for her dedication to the field of science.
Burrow's interest in biology and science continued during a summer program at Brown University in Rhode Island, where she studied human body tissues for three weeks, followed by a week of learning to fence and studying how the body performs while engaged in the sport.
Burrows is also enrolled in an intensive year-long biomedical science class at Mercer Island High. She said the class allowed her to develop a solid foundation in laboratory science and share her interest with other participating students.
The future of biomedical science is something that excites Burrows,^ka as there is a large amount of research being conducted and progress being made in various studies.
This summer, Burrows will directly influence that future during an internship at the Veterans Hospital in Seattle. She will be a laboratory assistant for an orthopedic surgeon.
Burrows is also the president of the Senior Service Club and a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to attend Washington University in St. Louis in the fall and pursue a career in medicine.
